BMW the 5th E28/E34 series (from 1981 to 1993 of release)
It was impossible to call external design of new model absolutely new, rather it was conservative. The body became more streamline, established new forward facing and racks. But under a cowl of E28 there was the real revolution. The new materials, new technologies were used.
And the salon of the car became more ergonomic and safe.
The model 528e came to change of model 528i. It was equipped with unexpectedly awful eta engine in volume 2.7 liters and capacity of only 121 h.p.
Shortcomings of the engine were brightened up by very skillful 5-step mechanical transmission or the 3-step automatic.
In 1983 model 528e let out without changes, but the new sedan joined it 533i, equipped with the 3.2-liter version of the 6-cylinder engine. Engine capacity made 181 h.p. Besides the powerful engine, the model 533i was equipped with more rigid suspension bracket, the tires Michelin TRX established on disks of unusual diameter - 390 millimeters. The standard complete set included ABS system.
In 1984 the list of options of models 528e and 533i included 4-step automatic transmission; other changes were insignificant.
Same year in the European market there was a new BMW Motorsport model - M5 equipped with the 3.5-liter DOHC engine (with two top cam-shafts) which capacity made 286 horses.
In 1985 let out model 535i. It was equipped with the 3.4-liter version of the 6-cylinder SOHC engine in capacity of 182 h.p. There was also a new model - 524td. Under a cowl of this car established the ryadny 6-cylinder turbodiesel engine in volume 2.4 liters. The standard complete set 524td included 4-step automatic transmission.
In 1986 the standard complete set of models 528e and 524td included ABS system. Diesel option of "five" laid off. Let out new model - 535iS.
In 1988 of model 528e, 535i and 535iS let out without essential changes.
By the end of the 80th years of the E28 model looked already to some extent it is old-fashioned, and came to update essentially time them.
Models of the fifth series of the third generation are noted by the producer as "E34". "Five" of 1989 was really absolutely the new car. The length of wheel base of this model made 276 centimeters, the new suspension bracket was established, the salon became much more spacious.
This car for the first time started to perceive seriously "the best in the world".
Many of the elements E34 were established in 1988 on models of the seventh series - MacPherson's forward racks, completely independent back suspension bracket. The new model simply remarkably looked, the fine impression was left also by road performance.
In 1990 the lateral safety cushion entered into a standard complete set of all BMW models for the driver. Next year the list of options 535i included system of automatic control of stability - ASC.
In 1991 the M5 model returned on the American market. It was equipped with the 3.6-liter DOHC engine in capacity of 310 h.p. which worked with 5-step mechanical transmission.
In 1992 to buyers, at last, offered the fifth model with a body "versatile person".
In 1994 the model 530i equipped with the new 3.0-liter V8 DOHC engine came to change of model 535i. Also let out the new model 540i equipped with the 4.0-liter version of the same engine. The capacity of model 530i made 215 horses; the car was issued with a body a sedan and the versatile person of "Touring". The V8 engine on model 540i developed 282 h.p. On 540i established new 5-step automatic transmission.
In 1995 on all models of the fifth series established new forward facings. Model 540i equipped with 6-step mechanical transmission and the underestimated sports suspension bracket, and also wheels of the 17th radius.
In 1996 cars of this series were issued without changes - prepared for release "five" of new generation.
