9.1.3. Replacement of epiploons The worn-out or damaged epiploons will lead to leaks. The lack of greasing of transmission can cause hard gear shifting, autocratic switching switching off of transfer and transmission noise. As a result, this lack of greasing will result in the accelerated wear and failure of components.
It is possible to replace all three epiploons of transmission without transmission dismantling; it is possible to replace two of them even without transmission removal.
If in an epiploon leak, that is supposed, working under transmission, attentively examine epiploons. Establish it on supports. For prevention of an otkatyvaniye of the car do not forget to establish under back wheels an emphasis.
Do not confuse leakage of impellent oil with leakages of the transmission - gipoidny oil, for example, has a peculiar smell, and on it it can be easy отличимо from the impellent. If oil covers a forward part of the driveshaft, proceeds or an epiploon of a shaft of the switch, or an epiploon of a target shaft. If oil is revealed on the bottom of a case of coupling, the epiploon of an entrance shaft (certainly, a back epiploon of a cranked shaft also can cause existence in the lower part of a case of coupling of impellent oil), probably, proceeds. Every time having made of the decision on epiploon replacement, first of all check ventilating the device in the top part of a case of transmission. The corked or damaged ventilating device can lead to increase in pressure transmission, and that oil will be squeezed out through epiploons. If it is simple to replace an epiploon without pro-cleaning of the corked ventilating device, the new epiploon soon also will lead to refusal.
Epiploon of a target shaft

- Lift a front of the car and establish it on supports. For prevention of an otkatyvaniye of the car do not forget to establish under back wheels an emphasis.
- If it is necessary for ensuring access, remove release system (look Head the Power supply system).
- Remove the driveshaft (look Head the Transmission line). If measures against creation of load of kardanny hinges are taken, the driveshaft can be not disconnected from the back bridge.
- Unbend ledges of a lock plate from their flutes and remove a lock plate. Holding a flange (if it is necessary, a bolt fix a long plate), a face head of 30 mm with thin walls unscrew a flange nut. Remove from a target shaft a flange. If necessary apply a stripper.

- The tool for removal of epiploons or a small screw-driver carefully pick up an old epiploon. Be convinced that at extraction of an epiploon of deepening under an epiploon it will not be damaged.

- Put on a fillet of a new epiploon a thin layer of greasing and clear the end of a target shaft. Put on a shaft an epiploon and carefully short piece of a pipe with external diameter slightly less external diameter of an epiploon establish an epiploon into place.
- Establish a flange. For prevention of leaks put on the party of a nut turned to a flange hermetic. Tighten a flange nut with effort specified in the Size table and adjusting data at the end of the Management. Pay attention that on Getrag transmissions the nut should be tightened in three stages. On ZF transmissions it is necessary to put a compound on a carving for carvings. Establish a new lock plate and bend in the corresponding flutes its ledges.
- For the rest installation is return to removal.

Epiploon of a shaft of the switch

- Execute the procedures of item 1-5 given above.
- On early models for a detachment from a shaft of the switch of a rod of the switch remove a lock ring of the plug, then a small punch beat out a pin.
- On late models for a detachment from a shaft of the switch of a rod of the switch establish the 3rd transfer, pull back the spring plug and beat out a pin.
- The tool for removal of epiploons or a small screw-driver pick up an epiploon (look
drawing). Be convinced that at epiploon extraction, deepening under an epiploon will not be damaged.
- Put on a fillet of a new epiploon greasing, then for the end of a shaft of the switch put on an epiploon. A face head or a piece of a pipe of the suitable sizes hammer an epiploon into place.
- Attach to a switch shaft a switch rod.
- Establish a flange (look above). For the rest installation is return to removal.

Epiploon of an entrance shaft
|
|
- Remove transmission (look the Section Removal and transmission installation).
- Remove vyzhimny the bearing of coupling and the lever (look Head Coupling).
- Remove bolts of the directing coupling of coupling. On some models bolts not the identical size therefore pay attention to an arrangement of bolts. Remove the coupling and all pro-rates under it.

- The tool for removal of epiploons or a screw-driver take an old epiploon. Do not damage deepening under an epiploon.
- Put on a fillet of a new epiploon greasing and a piece of a pipe of the suitable sizes hammer it into place. If it is applied, replace in a coupling flute a rubber ring of round section.
- Clear fixing bolts and condensed surfaces of the directing coupling, and also a carving under bolts in a case. On Getrag transmissions without a ring of round section on a condensed surface of the directing coupling put suitable hermetic. Establish directing coupling and a pro-rate (pro-rates).
- Put on shoulders of bolts hermetic, establish bolts and tighten them.
- For the rest installation is return to removal.

|
|
- Check level of transmission oil and, if necessary, add recommended oil (look Head Routine maintenance of the car).
- Lower the car, make control check and check existence of leaks.
