11.1.8. Removal and installation of a steering wheel

If the car is equipped with a pneumopillow, do not try to execute the procedure described below. Provide it to specialists of dealer office of service since there is a risk of receiving traumas at casual turning on of the mechanism of a pneumopillow.


If the radio receiver on your car is equipped with system of protection against theft, make sure that before a battery detachment you entered the correct code.


If after battery connection on the display of an instrument guard all inscriptions appeared not in that language, address to the Section System of protection of an audiosystem from theft and language of an instrument guard where procedure of installation of the necessary language is given.

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Disconnect a negative wire of the battery.
  2. By means of a small screw-driver hook and remove BMW emblem in the center of a steering wheel.
  1. Give a nut of a steering wheel and mark the provision of a nave of a steering wheel concerning a shaft.
  1. On models since 1986 turn a key in the ignition lock in a starting position to unblock the ignition lock.
  2. Remove a steering wheel from a steering shaft. If it acts in film hardly, use a special stripper for removal of a steering wheel - do not knock on a shaft a hammer.

Installation

Installation make upside-down. Do not forget to combine a label on a steering wheel and to a shaft, put at removal. Tighten a nut of a steering wheel with demanded effort.
