5.6. Check and replacement of the coil of ignition

Do not earth the ignition coil, differently the coil and/or the sensor of impulses can fail.


On the models equipped with Motronic system, faulty ECU can cause damage of the coil of ignition. Do not forget in case the engine is not started and there is a suspicion in malfunction of ECU, to check the ignition coil.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Note wires and plugs and then disconnect from the ignition coil a high-voltage wire and wires of primary chain.
  2. Remove fastenings of the coil of ignition, then clear its external surface and examine in search of cracks and other damages.
  3. Examine about corrosion of the plug of primary chain and high-voltage contact of the coil of ignition. The found corrosion remove with a wire brush.
  4. Check resistance of primary winding of the coil of ignition, having connected to its plugs an ohmmeter. On some systems Motronic the coil of other type is applied. First, remove a cover of the coil and by an ohmmeter measure resistance between plugs of primary winding of the coil of ignition.
  1. Compare the measured resistance to requirements of the Size table and adjusting data at the end of the Management.
  1. Check resistance of a secondary winding of the coil of ignition, having connected one щуп an ohmmeter to one of plugs of primary winding, and the second щуп - to high-voltage contact of the coil of ignition.
  1. In TCI systems connect an ohmmeter between the plug 1 (-) coils of ignition and the central contact. In Motronic systems connect an ohmmeter between the plug 15 () coils of ignition and the central contact. Compare the measured resistance to requirements of the Size table and adjusting data at the end of the Management.
  1. If the measured resistance considerably differ from specified, the coil is faulty and should be replaced. Pay attention that resistance depends on coil temperature therefore do not hurry to reject the coil if resistance differs slightly.
  1. For the correct work of system of ignition the dry and pure condition of wires is essential.
  2. Establish the coil on its fastening and attach wires. Installation is return to removal.
