17.30. Plums, washing and filling of system of coolingEach 38 000 km of run or time in two years

Do not allow antifreeze hit on your skin and the painted surfaces of the car. At hit immediately wash away a plentiful quantity of water. Antifreeze is extremely toxic and mortally dangerous at hit in an organism. Do not leave antifreeze in the open container or spilled on a floor; its sweetish smell can easily involve in itself children or pets. Consult about local rules of utilization of the fulfilled antifreeze. In many areas there are special centers for its acceptance. |
The system of cooling should be drained, washed out regularly and again be filled. This procedure is made for maintenance of quality of an okhladitelny mix and the prevention of formation of corrosion which reduces overall performance of system of cooling and can serve as an engine cause of failure. During service of system of cooling it is necessary to check also a condition of all hoses and a cover of a radiator and in case of need to replace defective components.
Drainage
|
- If the car just returned from a trip, before the beginning of procedure wait some hours before complete cooling of the engine.
- After the engine cooled down, uncover a broad tank or a radiator. If the cover has to be opened, when the engine cooled down not completely, do it slowly and with observance of precautions to avoid burns.

- Place under a radiator the big container for collecting a cooler. Where there is a drain stopper, unscrew it (depending on model, you can be necessary for this steam of flat-nose pliers or a screw-driver). Where there is no drain stopper, you should disconnect the bottom hose from a radiator.
|
- While the cooler pours out, check a condition of hoses of a radiator, a heater and collars (if necessary see. Section Check of fuel system).
- Replace defective hoses and collars (see. Head cooling System where replacement procedure is in details described).

Washing
|
- After complete drainage of system wash out a radiator pure water from a garden hose so that from a drain opening or the bottom hose pure water poured out. If the radiator strongly rusted, is damaged or proceeds, it should be removed (see. Head cooling System) and to send in repair shop to the expert in radiators.
- The washing described above will remove various deposits from a radiator, but cannot remove a rust and a scum from surfaces of the engine and a cooling pipe. It is possible to remove all this by means of a chemical cleaner. For performance of this procedure follow instructions of the manufacturer of a cleaner. Before washing of the engine open a drain stopper of the block of cylinders.
- On respectively equipped models remove perelivny a hose from a broad tank. Drain a tank, wash out it pure water and connect a hose.

Filling
Tighten a drain stopper of a radiator or connect the bottom hose of a radiator. Establish and tighten a drain stopper of the block of cylinders.
Four-cylinder engines
|
- Slowly fill in in a radiator a new cooler (40 %/60 % an antifreeze mix with water) before its filling. Fill in a cooler in a broad tank to the bottom mark.
- Without closing a radiator cover, in well aired room start the engine and banish it until the thermostat (the cooler will begin to flow through a radiator and the top hose of a radiator will heat up) will open.
- Switch off the engine and let's to it cool down. Add a cooler in a radiator to the basis of a bulk mouth. On M40 engines unscrew the gate of production of air in the top part of a radiator and add a cooler until it will not start to pour out through a gate opening. Establish and tighten the gate.
- Compress the top hose of a radiator to remove air, then if it is necessary, again add a cooler. Close a radiator cover.
- Start the engine, warm up it to normal working temperature and check, whether there are no leakages of a cooler.

Six-cylinder engines
|
|
- Weaken the gate of production of air in the thermostat case.
|
- Fill in in a radiator of 40 %/60 %-nuyu an antifreeze mix with water so that it started to pour out in an opening of the gate of production of air. Tighten the gate.
- Close a cover of a radiator and start the engine; banish it before thermostat opening (the top hose of a radiator will heat up). Slowly weaken the gate of production of air until air vials will cease to leave, then tighten the gate.
- Repeat procedure until air will not be removed from system.
