2.2.5. Removal and engine installation

If the radio receiver in your car is supplied with system of protection against abduction, before a detachment of the storage battery be convinced that to you the correct code of activization is known.

If after connection of the storage battery on the display of the dashboard of a radio receiver will appear the unreadable message, address to the Section System of protection of an audiosystem from theft and language of an instrument guard for data on procedure of installation of operation of the display.



  1. Remove in fuel system pressure (look Head the Power supply system), then disconnect from the storage battery a negative wire.
  2. Cover wings and the panel of a front and remove a cowl (look Head the Body). There are special rugs for protection of wings, however, the old cover also will be suitable for a bed or a blanket.
  3. Remove the case of an air purifier and inlet air lines (look Head the Power supply system).
  4. Drain cooling system (look Head Routine maintenance of the car).
  1. For the subsequent correct accession mark vacuum lines, hoses of system of decrease in toxicity, sockets of cables, tires of the earth and fuel lines, then disconnect them. It is convenient to apply slices of a sticky tape with figures or letters.

If there is some possibility of a mistake, make the sketch of an impellent compartment and accurately mark lines, hoses and wires.

  1. Mark and disconnect from the engine all hoses of system of cooling (look Head cooling System).
  2. Remove the cooling fan, a casing and a radiator (look Head cooling System).

On the M40 engine it is necessary to remove only the fan of cooling and a casing; however, protect a radiator from damage by a board or a cardboard.

  1. Remove driving belts (look Head Routine maintenance of the car).
  2. Disconnect from a tube of supply of fuel fuel lines (look Head the Power supply system).

Fuel is extremely inflammable, therefore accept additional precautionary measures at work with any part of fuel system. Do not smoke, do not apply some open fire or lighters without plafonds near a working zone and do not work in garage with the equipment at natural gas (such, as a heater of water or the dryer for clothes) in which there is a match.

  1. At performance of any work with fuel system use goggles and keep in readiness the fire extinguisher.
  2. Disconnect from the engine an accelerator cable (look Head the Power supply system) and draft a speed control dumping/cable if are applied (look Head Automatic transmission (AT)).
  3. If it is established, remove the power steering pump (look Head the Steering). Leave tubes/hoses attached and be convinced that the pump in an impellent compartment keeps in the correct situation (adhere it aside a rope or a wire).
  4. On models with the conditioner of air remove the compressor (look Head cooling System) and take aside or adhere out of a working zone. Do not disconnect hoses.
  5. Merge impellent oil (look Head Routine maintenance of the car) and remove the oil filter. Remove under the engine protection against splashes.
  6. Remove a starter (look Head System of onboard electric equipment).
  7. Remove the generator (look Head System of onboard electric equipment). It is not obligatory on all models, but it is in any case expedient in order to avoid damage.
  8. Disconnect from the engine release system (look Head the Power supply system).
  9. If the car is equipped with automatic transmission, unscrew bolts and nuts of fastening of the converter of rotation to a leading disk (look Head Automatic transmission (AT)). On the M40 engine unscrew from the pallet bolts of fastening of tubes of cooling of liquid of automatic transmission.
  10. Establish under transmission a jack. For prevention of damage of transmission establish between them tree whetstone. There are special jacks for transmissions with safe chains - whenever possible use the such.
  11. Fasten to engine eyes a sling for lifting or a chain piece. If eyes are removed, the chain can be fixed directly on hairpins of the inlet pipeline, however between a chain and a nut establish a flat washer and tighten a nut before complete pressing of a chain to avoid possible bending of hairpins.
  12. Drive the winch and attach to it a sling. Choose a sling or chain weak point, but do not lift the engine.

Not подлезайте under the engine when it is kept only by the winch or other elevating device.

  1. On engines M10, М20 and М30 remove a back cross-piece of fastening of transmission and lower its back part a little.
  2. By means of a face six-sided head remove bolts of fastening of transmission to the block of cylinders.

For an otvorachivaniye of bolts of fastening of a case of coupling to the block of cylinders the sharnirny natural is required by very big extension piece which it is necessary to direct to a back part of transmission.

  1. Remove nuts of fastening of support of the engine to frame arms. On the M40 engine unscrew from support bolts of dampers.
  2. Again check, whether remained still other connections of the engine with transmission or the car. If remained, disconnect them.
  3. Raise the engine a little. Carefully submit it forward for a detachment from transmission. If you work with the engine with automatic transmission, the converter of rotation can move together with the engine forward. If it remained in transmission, do not touch it, however, to you can seem to simpler to allow it to move forward, further to grasp it hands and to remove from a cranked shaft.

Before installation in transmission of the converter of rotation at return of the engine be into place convinced that the forward epiploon of the pump of transmission is replaced on new as former at engine removal together with the converter it is, as a rule, damaged. Any way is admissible, however, prepare that a liquid quantity at an exit of the converter of rotation from transmission will flow out. If you work with the engine with manual transmission, submit the engine forward that the entrance shaft was completely disconnected from coupling. Slowly lift the engine from an impellent compartment. Attentively check that everything is disconnected.

  1. Remove the flywheel/leader a disk (and a back cover of the engine if it is applied)...

... also establish the engine on the special stand. Do not overturn the M40 engine (look the Section Ways of removal of the engine and a precautionary measure).



  1. Check engine and transmission support. If they are worn-out or damaged, replace them.
  2. Establish a flywheel or a leading disk (look the Part the Repair work which is carried out without extraction of the engine from the car). On the engine with manual transmission establish coupling and press a disk (look Head the Manual box of gear shifting (RKPP)). This suitable time for coupling replacement.
  3. If at engine removal the converter of rotation left together with it, before engine lowering in the car carefully establish the converter in transmission.
  4. Carefully lower the engine in an impellent compartment; be convinced that support of the engine coincide.
  5. On the car with automatic transmission establish on a cranked shaft the rotation converter, following instructions in Head Automatic transmission (AT).
  6. On the car with manual transmission put on an entrance shaft of a little high-temperature greasing and insert it into coupling and the auxiliary bearing of a cranked shaft that the case of coupling appeared aflush with the block of cylinders. Do not allow, that the weight of the engine fell on an entrance shaft.

For combination шлицов an entrance shaft of a disk of coupling it can be demanded slightly to shake the engine or to turn a cranked shaft.

  1. Establish bolts of fastening of transmission to the engine and tighten them.

Do not use bolts for transmission pulling up to the engine.

  1. Establish upside-down other components.
  2. Fill in a cooler, oil, liquid of the power steering and if it is necessary, transmission liquid.
  3. Start the engine and check existence of leaks and correctness of operation of all units, then establish a cowl and check the car under way.
  4. If necessary make a charging of central air of air and check on leaks.
